GENERAL DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION: The town Montrose was founded in 1882, and was a typical frontier freighting and cow town nestled on the beautiful Western Slope of Colorado. Today, Montrose is home to an exceptional combination of people with diverse styles backgrounds, and varied professions who enjoy a unique and unbeatable quality of life which includes activities ranging from World Class Golf, Stage Theater, Fine Dining, Hot Air Ballooning, to County Fairs and Rodeos, as well as numerous outdoor recreational activities. We're a small town community with just the right amount of big city amenities to keep it current.
Situated in the Uncompahgre Valley at an elevation of 5,794 feet, Montrose is surrounded by high mountain barriers that contribute to the great climate that gives us all four seasons to enjoy.
CLIMATE: The semi-arid environment maintains a low relative humidity, low average precipitation, and a clear and pure air quality year round. Montrose residents enjoy mild summers and winters, and average 227 to 274 days of sunshine each year and minimal snow accumulation in the area of the city. Most winds occur during the months of April and early May with the prevailing wind from the southwest.
To the south of us lies the majestic 14,000-foot San Juan Mountains, to the west lies the 10,000-foot Uncompahgre Plateau, to the north lies the Grand Mesa, and to the east rests the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.
